How Bingo Industries streamlined their environmental compliance
with ienviro.co

Bingo Industries was faced with a serious challenge — when they acquired a brand-new landfill site, they needed to immediately submit a report to the environmental regulator analyzing all the site’s historical data.

Very approachable team, amazing product, made life easier and added value to our workflow as a compliance team.
Because the data was scattered, disorganised and inconsistent, Bingo knew they’d need to act strategically. ienviro.co worked with them to establish ESdat, centralising and organising the historical data to make reporting automatic and effortless.
With their new system, Bingo understands their data and its meaning as quickly as possible, making compliance a regular, automated part of operations. They are monitoring their environmental compliance requirements carefully and keeping track of all risks, aspects and impacts — demonstrating their commitment to the highest standards of environmental management.
An unexpected challenge
As one of Australia’s major players in the waste and recycling sector, Bingo Industries isn’t new to monitoring the environmental impacts of their work. After all, their industry is all about managing the effects that human civilization has on our planet.
But that doesn’t mean it’s not challenging to stay on top of constantly-updated environmental regulations, and make sure that they’re always making their best possible effort to reduce their ecological footprint.
Bingo faced an especially daunting challenge when they acquired a new landfill site that came with some particularly stringent requirements. On a very tight timeline, Bingo had to prepare an annual report summarising the site’s environmental condition — and it needed to include analysis of historical data for a site they’d only just acquired.
With little time to prepare, Bingo had to consolidate and organise all the relevant, historical environment data pertaining to their new site. It was a big task, and to make matters more difficult, the historical data was disorganized, inconsistent, and distributed across dozens of different spreadsheets.
Bingo had to crunch the numbers, organise the data, and complete the report, or they’d risk falling out of compliance with their licence authorising them to operate the landfill . They knew they needed a better system, or it just wasn’t going to get done. At the same time, Bingo were seeking data management software that would dovetail with their ISO14001:2015 accredited Environmental Management System.
Our objective was to align with the intended outcomes of that system, namely:
enhancement of environmental performance
fulfilment of compliance obligations
achievement of environmental objectives
Readjusting approach
Bingo quickly realised that they wouldn’t be able to organise and understand the data unless it was centralised into one cohesive system — an environmental data management system, such as ESdat. They contacted us at ienviro.co; we specialise in providing data management solutions that automate workflows to boost efficiency and reduce risk, wasted resources, and human error.
After consulting with Bingo on the landfill’s specific needs, we created a plan of action. First, we consolidated the data into one central repository, giving Bingo confidence that their data was securely housed and easily accessible.
To make data collection easier in the future, we helped them automate their various data inputs — saving them time and reducing the likelihood of human error.
Once the data was organized, the next step was to actually extract meaning from it, and share those insights with the regulator. As the landfill acquisition was a high profile transaction in an increasingly residential area, the environmental regulator was paying close attention. To help Bingo rise to the challenge, we upgraded their system with improved reporting templates so they could effortlessly get the regulator the information they needed.
“For a large annual return to EPA with multiple monitoring points and large analyte suites the software turned weeks of work into a 4-5 days worth of work, says Hugh Goymour of Bingo Industries. “I had confidence that the majority of transcription errors had been eliminated.”

Prioritizing compliance — and the planet

For Bingo Industries, embracing ESdat helped them lead the way in their industry with efficient data storage and management. Their new system from ienviro.co helps them stay in front of their compliance requirements , without adding further burdens onto their existing workload.
ESdat automates programming, collection, validation, storage and reporting of environmental data, and it’s ready to use out-of-the-box, with an intuitive interface and plenty of product support to make adoption, and continued use, seamless and effortless for their team.
ESdat is also scalable. While it was initially adopted for one specific landfill, it’s designed as a business-wide solution. Bingo and ienviro.co are working together to roll it out to other Bingo sites as the company continues to grow.
The impact? Bingo is saving both time and money, plus gaining peace of mind as they can know that their data is securely stored in one organized, central location. Most importantly, they’re confident that they have a clear picture of their compliance with their environmental regulations. That reduces the risk of the regulatory penalties or litigation — and they know that no matter what, they’re doing their part to take care of our planet.
